HISTORY OF THE FOUNDATION
Hamman Bello Jabbo Waqaf (Foundation), a philanthropic organization dedicated to uplifting the lives of orphans, widows, and the less privileged in our communities. Our mission is driven by humanitarian principles, aiming to provide essential support through education, health, and social security initiatives.
It originated as an informal Islamiyah school dedicated to providing free education to orphans. Established in 2019, it was founded out of a heartfelt initiative by Abubakar Bello Jabbo who sought to honor his late father, Hamman Bello Jabbo, through acts of charity, believing that offering education would serve as a sadaqatu jariya (continuous charity).
Initially, the foundation began with an islamiyya academy with just five classrooms, gradually expanding to meet the rising demand for educational services. Over time, a new block was constructed, which included six additional classrooms and an administrative office. As enrolment increased—from a small group of orphans to a larger population of students from the community—it became evident that formal recognition and registration were necessary.
As of the current, the foundation proudly serves 58 orphan pupils/students and 93 women (Islamiyyah and Adult Education). Our dedicated teachers strive to provide quality education and support for all students, furthering our mission to uplift and empower our community.
The school operates on a shift system to accommodate the diverse needs of our students. Elementary pupils attend classes in the morning, while secondary students come in the afternoon. To facilitate learning for our adult learners, widows participate in weekend classes, and adult men attend night classes. This flexible scheduling allows us to maximize educational access for all members of the community, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to learn and grow.
Recognizing the critical need for sustainable development in the area, particularly concerning educational backwardness, prevalent poverty, and environmental degradation, the academy underwent a significant transformation, transitioning from its informal setup to become the fully-fledged Hamman Bello Jabbo Waqaf (Foundation). The foundation is now registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission as an incorporated trustee, ensuring legal compliance and accountability. Additionally, the academy has been officially registered and approved by the Adamawa State Ministry of Education. This transformation allowed the organization to expand its impact, enabling it to undertake a broader array of activities such as health outreach, basic amenities provision, and empowerment programs for widows and less privileged individuals.
